Founded in 2010, the Albany Piano Trio is a thriving, dynamic ensemble who have risen compellingly from a nascent group to an established ensemble.   Having performed at a large number of high profile venues and gathered insights via masterclasses and international music courses from some of the preeminent exponents in their respective fields, the Albany Trio recently won the Gwyneth George Award from the Piano Trio Society and were finalists at the 2014 St Martin's Chamber Competition. Playing a captivating and engaging selection of music by Mozart, Clarke and Beethoven, this will be a wonderful finale to the season.

Christopher Smith was born and grew up in Guisborough, North Yorkshire.   He has always had acute interest in playing the piano and has been privileged to study under the tutelage of Dr Leslie Howard, Michael Young and Richard McMahon.   During the five years before he commenced his studies at RWCMD, Christopher had many successes in piano competitions around the country, which led to his acceptance at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. In July 2014, he graduated with a Bmus (Hons) First Class award.

At the age of fifteen, Laura van der Heijden was awarded the title of BBC Young Musician 2012 performing Walton’s Cello Concerto with Kirill Karabits and the Northern Sinfonia.   Since 2008 Laura has been a student of the renowned British-Russian cellist Leonid Gorokhov with whom she performs in the UK and Germany.


Tom Poster is internationally recognised as a pianist of outstanding artistry and versatility, equally in demand as soloist and chamber musician across an unusually extensive repertoire.   He has been described “a marvel, [who] can play anything in any style” (The Herald), a “young lion” (The Guardian), and as possessing “great authority and astounding virtuosity” (Est Républicain).

Jane Austen's Musical England


The Trust is delighted to welcome back Concert Royal, one of Britain’s longest established early music groups.   All four musicians have been awarded Masters Degrees from British universities in early music performance practice.   The ensemble has developed a distinctive style, presenting unique performances of music from the eighteenth century drawing room in an entertaining and informative way.   The York based quartet Concert Royal, which specialises in music of the Georgian period, performs a programme of music from Jane Austen's own collection.

As a soloist and recital artist of strong communicative powers, the pianist Christopher Guild has become increasingly in demand throughout the concert halls of the United Kingdom. A sought after collaborative artist, Christopher has given acclaimed duo and chamber music performances and will be partnering this recital with the violinist Diana Galvydyte.   Diana is a prize-winner of sixteen competitions for young artists including becoming a laureate of the Jasha Heifetz International Competition in Lithuania and a finalist in the Jeunesses Musicales Montreal International Competition.

A Patron of the Trust, Leslie Howard gives recitals and concerto performances throughout the world, embracing the whole piano repertoire. With more than eighty concertos, he has played with many of the world’s great orchestras, working with many distinguished conductors. As soloist, in chamber music and song, Howard is a familiar figure at international festivals.


Since performing for the Trust in 2011, the Wu Quartet has had a number of significant competition successes as first prize winners at the 23rd V.E Rimbotti International String Quartet Competition in Italy 2012, the 2011 Artis Quartet prize in Vienna and second prize together with the Barenreiter prize at the 2012 Charles Hennen Concours in Holland.
